Next time I would buy the text so at least there would be some sell-back value. Hard to read on Kindle as pages didn't fit well and I had to constantly zoom in and out. If you need the interactive nutrition program to figure out a diet plan, get the text as it is included, otherwise you will need to buy that access code separately and it will end up costing you the same as the hardcover.

I seldom come upon textbooks that are simultaneously interesting to read and have loads of applicable information--usually, these factors are inversely related. But the writing in this textbook is smart, easy to read, and subtly humorous, which really makes a difference for a college student who is drowning in a million essays and texts for other classes. Every time I open these pages, I learn new, fascinating things about the human body and its intimate relationship with food that I've never cared to think about before. The textbook also clarifies a lot of misguided health and nutrition issues that the food industry and media always love to distort. You can definitely tell that the authors don't just care about the physical aspects of living healthfully--they emphasize the importance of a healthy mental process as well. Their entire approach is holistic and thoughtful. I love that I can close the book after reading about practical steps to effectively create a healthy lifestyle, get up from my desk, and immediately put my new knowledge to use. For anyone who's ever dieted or wanted to get fit, you can forget the fad diets, juicing/detox plans, and weight loss books. All you really need and probably all you'll ever need is this textbook, which provides accurate, research-based information. This book is the real deal, and you'll most likely never feel the need to peruse the weight loss shelves at Barnes and Noble or feel completely clueless about nutrition and health ever again.
