Overview: If you only have a month to review for the ABSITE, don't use this book. It's best used throughout the year to review topics as they appear in a structured curriculum.

Good:
-Diverse chapters covering all the wide expanse of general surgery, basic science, ortho, neurosurgery, gynecology, urology, and even ethics.
-More bang for the buck compared to other, similarly priced review books. The rationale for answer choices are fully expounded upon; it's very thorough.
-Less annoying mistakes compared to other books.
-Much improved over previous editions. Rather than picking the 3 out of 5 correct answer choices, now you only have to pick one answer, simulating the real ABSITE better.
-The online component works well. You can summon it easily so you can leave the book at home or if if you're in house waiting an inordinate amount of time between cases, waiting for results, etc.

Bad:
-The Rush Review of Surgery is hard reading. You feel like you're reading a textbook rather than a Q&A. While I could blaze through Schwartz's Principles of Surgery ABSITE and Board Review, Ninth Edition and Review of Surgery for ABSITE and Boards: Expert Consult- Online and Print, 1e in a week, it took me months just to read the majority of Rush's chapters. The chapter on gallbladder and biliary tract is 20 pages. Yes, it's important, but it's billed as a review, not a textbook.
