This is an average textbook. Certainly, not the best and not the worst. I have found inconsistent statements in various chapters, and some of the information is outdated (considering the 3rd edition was published in 2011). The price of this book is outrageous, and I rarely ever complain about the cost of books; however, it simply is not worth $100+. A great aspect to this text is that one of the authors is a MD, and that is not usually the case with APN books. Additionally, from what I was told by someone who sits on the committee who writes questions for the ANCC FNP board exam, this particular book is referenced the most when generating test questions...take that for what it is worth.

In any case, numerous books are used in any FNP program. In addition to using this book, some of my other recommendations include:

Family Practice Guidelines (Cash & Glass)
Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination and Practice Preparation (Fitzgerald)
Lange's Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment
Lange's Family Medicine
Primary Care Medicine (Goroll & Mulley)
Ferri's Clinical Advisor
Ferri's Best Test
Radiology 101 (Erkonen & Smith)
Pharmacotherapy in Primary Care (Linn)
Pharmacology for the Primary Care Provider (Edmunds)
Pediatric Primary Care (Burns)
Ambulatory Care Procedures for the Nurse Practitioner (Colyar)
Women's Health: A Primary Care Clinical Guide (Youngkin)

Clinical Guidelines in Family Practice (Uphold & Graham) is fantastic too, but unfortunately it is somewhat outdated...when will they publish the 5th edition??

Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine is a classic and worth reading when you need an in depth understanding about a specific disease process (ie, research, teaching, etc.).
