The NAPLEX (North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination) is the standard licensing exam that all U.S. pharmacy students must pass to practice pharmacy. It's an arduous exam that tests a daunting range of knowledge. Approximately 10% of students taking the exam for the first time fail to achieve a passing score. Preparing for the NAPLEX by reviewing all of the material from each pharmacy school course would be overwhelming. A far better approach would be to study only the information most relevant to the exam, summarized in abbreviated bullet format and that's what The APhA Complete Review for Pharmacy contains.

Key Features:
*Updated annually. New to this edition is one new chapter, Nuclear Pharmacy. Thirty-seven of the other 40 chapters, plus the extensive appendices, have been updated for the 10th edition.
*Top 200 drugs. Begin your NAPLEX preparation by learning the generic and trade names for the top 200 drugs.
*Math. After generic and trade names, this is the most important single area to review.
*Drug therapy for chronic and common diseases. This is the heart of today's NAPLEX and the subject of more than half of the 41 chapters in this study guide.
*Summary tables of the major drug categories. Drug charts, including dosage schedules and dosage forms, are provided in each of the therapeutic chapters.
*Review questions. All chapters end with 20 or more practice exam questions and answers as well as explanations that reinforce key learning points.

I tried to use this book to study for the NAPLEX and found it to be very unhelpful. The only pros I can say about this book is that it is very organized and to the point. The writing is simple to understand, which is nice.

However, I would not advise purchasing this book to help you study. The chapters do not have detail necessary to learn a new topic if you hadn't encountered it previously, so they aren't very useful in trying to learn areas which you didn't encounter on rotation or internships. For topics you have encountered previously, class notes or resources from rotations would be much better study material than this book. My technique to approach studying was to focus on chapters that I felt were weak spots for me: herbals and OTCs, women's health, etc. These chapters in APhA Complete Review were very sparse and weren't helpful at all in learning or reviewing materials. The calculations chapter is very outdated and included a number of calculations that not only do not appear on the NAPLEX exam but are no longer taught in school or (from my experience) used in practice. For pharmacy students and graduates studying for the NAPLEX, I would highly recommend using PharmPrep or Rx Prep instead. These two resources had lots of sample questions written out on a case or clinical basis and had tons of detail AND explanations of correct/incorrect answers.

Great book, gives essential information. I had a previous experience with Apha for FPGEE, passed my exam at first try. Apha greatly recommended.
